Daniel J. Barth, DO, was born and raised in Iowa. He completed his medical degree at Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center. His internal medicine residency was completed through the University of Iowa - Des Moines at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He completed his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine, critical care, and pulmonary disease.

Angela D. Beckel, ARNP

Dr. Angie Beckel, ARNP, FNP-C, is a native of Norwalk. Angie is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorate in Nursing from the University of Iowa. Her doctoral project involved increasing education to patients with COPD to improve outcomes.

Steven G. Berry, MD

Steven G. Berry, MD, was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he completed his secondary education. He earned a bachelor of arts degree at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Internal medicine training in Michigan and pulmonary fellowship training at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City led to private practice in Des Moines. He has a special interest in asthma and pulmonary rehabilitation. Dr. Berry is board-certified in internal and pulmonary medicine. He is a fellow of American College of Physicians and American College of Chest Physicians.

Beth A. Borden, ACNP-BC

Beth Borden, ACNP-BC, was born and raised in International Falls, Minnesota. After working as a critical care nurse for nine years, she earned her bachelor's degree at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines. Beth began working as a nurse in the field of cardiothoracic surgery before pursuing her master's degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Maxwell S. Cosmic, MD

Maxwell S. Cosmic, MD

Maxwell S. Cosmic, MD, was born in India. He earned his medical degree from Trivandrum Medical College, India. He underwent further training in internal medicine in England and earned an MRCP (Member of Royal College of Physicians of UK) degree. He moved with his family to the United States in 1997. His internal medicine residency was at SUNY Buffalo, New York, where he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship training at Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. During fellowship training, he did research seeking a genetic factor for venous thromboembolism. Dr. Cosmic is board certified in pulmonary, critical care, and internal medicine. 

Neil R. Horning, MD

Neil R. Horning, MD

Neil R. Horning, MD, was born and raised in Bristol, Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Tennessee, and a medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. His internal, pulmonary and critical care medicine training, was done at Barnes Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. At Washington University, he conducted research investigating the immunopathogenesis of asthma and the optimization of immunosuppression in lung transplant recipients. Dr. Horning is board certified in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine.

Bryon N. Johnson, DO

Bryon N. Johnson, DO, was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and a medical degree from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his internal medicine training and his pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is board certified in pulmonary, internal, and critical care medicine. He was the recipient of the Young Investigator Award in 2010, which was granted by the American College of Chest Physicians.

Jonathan Smith, NP-C

Jonathan Smith, NP-C, was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. He earned his bachelor's degree from Allen College in Waterloo, Iowa. He spent seven years working as a nurse in various fields, including two years in critical care. He then earned his master's in Nursing from Clarkson College in Omaha, Nebraska. He is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Blair D. Westerly, MD

Blair Westerly, MD, was born in Des Moines and grew up in Indianola, Iowa. He received his B.A. in biology at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville before transitioning to Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. During fellowship, Dr. Westerly conducted researched on the effects of hypercapnia on cellular signaling and injury repair. He is board certified in internal, pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Bradley E. Wilcox, DO, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is board certified in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine.

Michael C. Witte, DO, was born in Muscatine, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City as an undergraduate and the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, where he graduated in 1977. His internal, pulmonary, and critical care medical training was done at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He is board-certified in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine. He joined CIC Associates in 1987 after serving in the army.

Dr. Wittmer is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, sleep medicine, and critical care medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
